Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Recognising that not every disability is visible

Sunflower-Friendly Airport

Ireland West Airport prides itself in making their passenger’s journey through the airport as easy as possible. We understand that passengers travelling with a disability or additional needs may need some extra support from our staff while travelling through the airport. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower allows our staff to recognise passengers with any disability – whether visible or invisible.

What is the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower?

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally-recognised symbol for non-visible disabilities, also known as hidden disabilities or invisible disabilities. The initiative allows individuals to voluntarily share that they have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent, by wearing or displaying a Sunflower. Passengers can choose to wear the Sunflower Lanyard on their journey through the airport to discreetly let others know they have a hidden disability.

Travelling through the airport

Passengers travelling with a hidden disability can choose to wear a Sunflower Lanyard. If you do not have your own lanyard you can pick one up from our Customer Information desk in the main terminal free of charge before they travel through the airport.

Our airport staff are trained to recognise that passengers wearing the Sunflower Lanyard may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time while travelling through the airport.
